Juan Hernandez Guitars

Juan Hernandez Guitars was established in 2001 under the Esteve banner by Juan Hernandez Iranzo (b. 1948), who began his career as an apprentice at the Francisco Esteve workshop at the age of 15. Over time, he rose to become Esteve’s production manager. In his personal workshop, Juan handcrafted his own line of classical and flamenco guitars, earning a reputation for excellence.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Alberto Hernandez Monfort (b. 1979) began his apprenticeship at Esteve in 1994. He quickly achieved certification and joined his father’s workshop, continuing the family tradition.

When Juan Hernandez stepped down, Alberto assumed the role of Esteve’s production manager and became the head luthier at Juan Hernandez Guitars. Alberto has since established himself as a true master guitar maker. His expertise encompasses a wide range of models, drawing inspiration from renowned masters such as Torres and Hauser while incorporating modern innovations like double tops and lattice bracing. Alberto consistently produces instruments celebrated for their exceptional quality, intricate craftsmanship, flawless finishing, and extraordinary tonal richness.

The Romanillos Model

The Romanillos model, personally handcrafted by Alberto Hernandez, reflects meticulous attention to detail and features premium tonewoods. Its tone is best described as exceptionally warm, balanced, and full-bodied. The bass notes are rich and resonant—deep and full, yet clear and well-defined. The midrange tones are warm and lush, with excellent separation, allowing intricate melodies to be expressed with clarity and nuance. The trebles are sweet and singing, adding a brilliant sparkle to the overall sound without being overly sharp or piercing.

This model is highly responsive, with a wide dynamic range and an impressive palette of tonal colors. It reacts beautifully to the subtlest nuances in touch and technique, enabling players to convey a broad spectrum of emotions with precision and sensitivity.
