Manuel Soto y Solares (Sevilla 1839-1906) had a close relationship with Antonio de Torres during his years in Sevilla. Their workshops were only a few doors apart on the Calle Cerrageria, and may have even shared a shop for a while. Torres even appears to made some guitars for Manuel that he sold under his label. When Torres when into “retirement” and moved back to Almeria in 1870, those seeking Torres style guitars turned to Manuel de Soto y Solares, and he drew important clients such as Juan Breva, Paco de El Luna and maestro Pérez. Even Tárrega purchased one as a gift for the daughter of a friend.

This guitar has been restored by my friend, Roger Sperline, who done work for me for over 20 years. When this guitar was made Spanish guitars the distinction between classical and flamenco guitars was not yet firmly established. While this guitar has pegs, it character is such that it can be used to play both classical and flamenco music. This guitar is very special, responsive and very powerful. The trebles are intense, but lovely. The mid-range is strong. The basses are rich and full. I especially love the thin neck profile.
