Juan Perfumo Masnea (born in Cádiz, approximately 1800 - passed away in 1860) was a prominent luthier based in Cádiz. He originally hailed from Cádiz and began his career as a carpenter. Throughout his career, he relocated his workshop several times, Juan Perfumo's guitars gained popularity and even garnered international acclaim, and examples of his craftsmanship reached far corners of the world from Argentina to Japan. Tragically, he met his end at sea on March 31, 1860.
Acquiring one of Perfumo’s guitars was a journey in itself. Initially lacking a label, its attribution to Perfumo was confirmed during restoration, thanks to Roger Sperline’s meticulous work. Uncovering traces of Perfumo’s distinctive label from 1853, coupled with analysis by noted experts, have solidified its authenticity. Today, I’m proud to share this piece of history, restored to its original glory.
