Manuel Adalid (b. 1951) is a second generation luthier, and the head luthier at Esteve. He is widely respected as one of Spain's most experimental and innovative guitar makers. The guitars Manuel makes under his own name, however, are not production guitars. He maintains his own workshop within Esteve, where he carries on experiments, and personally makes his own guitars. The Torres flamenco guitar is a copy of a Antonio Torres (1817-1892) flamenco guitar that Manuel Adalid is building for us exclusively. Each is signed and dated by Manuel. This model captures more than a little of the character of the original. Made with German spruce and Spanish cypress, with a Torres rosette, and clear tap plate, this model is built exclusively for Zavaletas. It is a real cannon, with a great rasp and growl. It possess trebles that are focused, wonderfully clear, and truly sing. The mid-range is outstanding, and the the basses match and balance the other strings perfectly. This is just the kind of guitar that I love.
