This 1969 Felix Manzanero requinto guitar was obviously a special commission and is essentially a smaller version of his 1a concert classical guitar. Requinto guitars are commonly used in Latin American music, particularly in Mexican bolero trios. They are tuned a fourth above a standard guitar (A-D-G-C-E-A), giving them a bright, resonant sound, making them ideal for melodic and lead parts in ensemble settings.

This guitar is in good condition but shows some player wear. Although it has a clear tap plate, there are multiple scuff marks, light scratches, and nail dents on the top from decades of tríos románticos and flamenco performances. There are some dents and whitish marks on the back and sides that could likely be improved with proper French polishing methods.

As is common with vintage guitars, this one has had some minor repairs. Over 30 years ago, airline shipping crushed the tuning head section at the nut's angle. The back of the head was immediately and professionally fixed by a Puerto Rican luthier with matching wood and finish. The same luthier also reattached and realigned the nut. These repairs have held up to this day without issues and have had no impact on sound or playability.

Felix Manzanero (1937-2019) was a renowned Spanish luthier known for his exceptional craftsmanship in making classical and flamenco guitars. Born in Madrid, he began his career in 1951, apprenticing under José Ramírez III. Manzanero established his own workshop in 1963, gaining a reputation for his meticulous attention to detail and innovative designs. His guitars are celebrated for their rich tonal quality and superior playability, making them highly sought after by professional musicians worldwide.
