Kolya Panhuyzen, born in Berlin in 1941, is a distinguished luthier renowned for his handcrafted classical guitars. His early exposure to guitar music came from his father, who played pieces by Tárrega and Sor. In 1967, Panhuyzen built his first guitar in the workshop of his uncle, the esteemed luthier Edgar Mönch. He established his own workshop in Toronto in 1974 and opened a second one in Germany in 1992. Over his career, Panhuyzen has crafted over 400 guitars, admired by renowned guitarists such as Carlo Domeniconi, Julian Bream, John Williams, and Hubert Käppel. His instruments are celebrated for their sonority, balance, and playability, reflecting his meticulous craftsmanship and deep understanding of guitar acoustics.
