Paulino Bernabé Roman, born in 1960, stands as a world-class luthier, following in the footsteps of his father, Paulino Bernabé Almendariz (1932-2007). Growing up in his father's shop, Paulino's formal apprenticeship began in the early 1980s, and they shared a workbench for an impressive 30 years. Much like his father, Paulino is not only a masterful craftsman but also a relentless innovator, continuously exploring ways to enhance construction techniques and the diverse tonal qualities of the guitar.
Paulino Bernabe's model Torres, inspired by an 1864 Torres guitar from his personal collection, pays homage to the original while embracing contemporary elements. This guitar, though rooted in tradition, seamlessly incorporates modern innovations. For instance, Bernabe's new bridge maintains the classic appearance while optimizing the string angle over the saddle, enhancing playability and tone.
As expected from a luthier of Bernabe's caliber, the sound of this guitar is nothing short of extraordinary. It embodies balance, offering exceptional separation between notes. The tone is a harmonious blend of rich harmonics, with the basses exuding a lovely quality, the mid-range shining brilliantly, and the trebles soaring with remarkable clarity and resonance.
