Paulino Bernabé Roman, born in 1960, is a world-class luthier who continues the legacy of his father, Paulino Bernabé Almendariz (1932–2007). Growing up immersed in his father’s workshop, Paulino’s formal apprenticeship began in the early 1980s. Over an impressive span of 30 years, father and son shared a workbench, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative approaches. Like his father, Paulino is not only a master craftsman but also a relentless innovator, consistently seeking to refine construction techniques and expand the tonal palette of the guitar.
Paulino Bernabé’s Model Torres is a testament to his artistry and dedication. Crafted personally by Paulino in his home workshop, this model draws inspiration from an 1864 Torres guitar in his personal collection. While paying homage to the original, the Model Torres seamlessly incorporates modern innovations. Notable among these is Bernabé’s redesigned bridge, which retains a classic aesthetic while optimizing the string angle over the saddle, enhancing both playability and tonal quality.
As expected from a luthier of Bernabé’s caliber, the sound of this guitar is extraordinary. It achieves a perfect balance, offering exceptional note separation. The tonal qualities are a harmonious blend of rich harmonics, with basses that exude warmth, a mid-range that shines brilliantly, and trebles that soar with clarity and resonance. The Model Torres exemplifies the fusion of tradition and innovation, marking it as a standout creation in the world of classical guitars.
