Koyla Panhuzyen was born in Germany in 1941, and grew up surrounded by guitars. His father played classical guitar, and his uncle Edgar Mönch was a highly respected luthier whose guitars were played by Julian Bream and John Williams, among many others. Kolya apprenticed with his uncle for three years first in Canada, where his uncle had moved, and later in Germany after his return. He also acknowledges that he learned a good deal from Sergei de Jonge, Sascha Nowak, and Gernot Wagner. In 1971, Kolya open his own shop in Canada, and in 1992 set up a second shop in Germany, and divides his time between them up to the present. Kolya builds only one guitar at a time - slowly, lovingly, meticulously - so as to maximize his focus on wood choice, soundboard and body tuning, and workmanship, even so he has built over 400 guitars. This loving care as been rewarded, as renowned guitarists such as Julian Bream, John Williams, Raphaella Smits, Laura Young... to name but a few have used Panhuyzen guitars to perform or record.
This guitar is in excellent condition, although as is common with years of play, there are a few nail marks and scratches near the sound hole. NOTE: As this guitar contains Indian rosewood, unless the owner can provide CITES permits, it is only available within the European Union. It is priced in US dollars.
