While Joaquin Garcia Fernandez is not well, he deserves to be. The son of Spanish immigrants, he was born in 1929 in Santa Cruz, Argentina. When he was two, the family returned to their home in Asturias. When he was 13 the apprenticed as a cabinet-maker. Due to unforseen circumstances, when he waswas 15 he became the head of the shop, and had two people working for him. In 1949, he left Spain (as in was unhappy living in Franco's Spain) and returned to Argentina. There after doing military service, he began working part-tme in a guitar factory. Given his wood working skills, luthiers there encouraged him to learn the trade. In 1952, he made his first guitar, and began his life-long research into acoustics, and the history of the guitar. When politics in Argentina moved toward dictatorship, he decided to return to Spain. Arriving in 1974, within a year he was working for the firm ofIn 1954, he returned to Spain. In 1975 he went to workas an advisor for the firm of Raimundo y Aparicio as an advisor. Eventually, he moved to Torremolinos, and in 1982 opened his own workshop there, where he continues to build guitars with in son Nicolas. This guitar was made in 1988, has great volume, and a pure clear fundamental tone.
