In the decade 1960-1970 is widely consider to have been the Golden Age of Ramirez when Andres Segovia was playing a Ramirez and Jose Ramirez III had gathered and trained the best luthiers of the next generation: Felix Manzanero, Manuel Contreras I, Ignacio M. Rozas, Antonio Martinez, Paulino Bernabé (forman of the workshop) among others. In this era, possibly the best “José Ramirez III” guitars were built. The Ramirez master craftsman who built particular instrument was Ignacio Manzanos Rozas who stamped IM is found inside the guitar. Ignacio M. Rozas (b. 1943) worked for Jose Ramirez III from 1959 to 1969, and then joined the Contreras shop, where he worked from 1970 to 1979, before he opened his own shop. Although retired in February of 2008, he has a bench in Paulino Bernabe's workshop that he uses from time to time. The guitars Ignacio made while at Ramirez are highly prized. This guitar has a no 10 label, making it a 2a. The guitar has a couple of hairline cracks, one next to the fingerboard on the treble side, the other in the low bout of the soundboard on the bass side, both have been expertly repaired. The next is straight, and the set up is spot on for flamenco players. I have inspected and played this guitar myself, and can recommend it without hesitation.
