Mateo Benedid Diaz (b. 1800 - d. 1878) was born in Cadiz. He was the son of Josef Sebastián Benedid Díaz (Cádiz, active 1760-1836), and was trained along side his two brothers by his father. The Benedid family was one of the most important and influential makers of the 18th and 19th centuries. The elder Benedid along was an earily adopter of fan bracing— and was one of several Spanish makers that Fernando Sor recommended to those seeking fine guitars.
This guitar is a survivor. It is in original condition, and has not been refinished or had previous repairs. Yes, it needs some minor repairs. There a few cracks (notably on the top) either side of fingerboard, a couple below bridge, that appear to have been repaired, but I am not completely sure.
