This
Granada based luthier is one of the top up-and-coming makers from
Andalucia. Pepe and Celin Romero have recently acquired several of his
instruments and expect to see several more top players playing them in
the future. This flamenca negra guitar has three piece beautiful back made of
Indian rosewood.
The Hauser style hand engraved Rubner tuners. Rafael tells me that he lent this
guitar to his good friend Pepe Habichuela to do a concert. Unfortunately,
Pepe put a couple of nail marks on the top. Although Rafael has polished over
them, and they are barely visible, if one knows where to look, they can be
discerned. Consequently, we have discounted this guitar by several hundred
dollars. This is one of the strongest flamenca negras to come through in a long
time. It has a wonderful voice, great color, trebles that strike out, basses
that are firm and crisp, and true flamenco rasp.
